Frequently Asked Questions

400°F is 204°C. This is one of the most common air fryer temperatures and is ideal for maximum crispiness: chicken wings, French fries, steak, frozen foods, and anything where you want a deep golden crust. Many air fryers top out at 400°F / 205°C — this is by design, as higher temperatures would risk burning the heating element coatings and are rarely needed for food.
375°F equals 190°C. This is the most versatile all-purpose air fryer temperature — suitable for chicken breast, fish, pork chops, roasted vegetables, and most breaded items. It's hot enough to achieve browning without the risk of over-crisping the exterior before the interior is cooked through, which can happen at 400°F with thicker cuts.
350°F is 177°C. This temperature is best for: reheating leftovers (especially pizza, steak, egg rolls), baking (cakes, cookies, bread), and cooking delicate fish fillets. At 177°C the air fryer still circulates heat effectively but with less risk of burning. Many air fryer baking recipes use 350°F as a starting point, then reduce by 10–15°F if the top browns too quickly.
Most air fryers have a minimum temperature setting of 180°F (82°C), with some starting at 200°F (93°C). This low temperature is useful for dehydrating thin-sliced vegetables and fruits, warming bread or pastries without crisping, keeping food warm after cooking, and low-temperature cooking of delicate items. Some newer models have a dedicated "dehydrate" mode that goes as low as 130°F (54°C).
The recommended temperatures for air frying chicken: Chicken wings: 400°F (204°C) for 22–26 minutes with flipping. Chicken breast (boneless): 375°F (190°C) for 16–22 minutes depending on thickness. Chicken thighs (bone-in): 380°F (193°C) for 24–28 minutes. Whole chicken (spatchcocked): 360°F (182°C) for 35–45 minutes. Always verify with a meat thermometer — chicken is safe at 165°F (74°C) internal temperature.
No — 180°C is 180°C in any cooking appliance. However, the effective cooking power is very different. An air fryer at 180°C cooks food noticeably faster than a conventional oven at 180°C because of the forced circulation. This is exactly why you should reduce temperature when converting between the two. A fan/convection oven at 180°C is roughly equivalent to a conventional oven at 200°C. An air fryer at 180°C is somewhat more powerful than a fan oven at 180°C due to the compact chamber and higher fan speed.
Preheat your air fryer to the same temperature you'll be cooking at. Unlike an oven which needs 15+ minutes to preheat, an air fryer reaches temperature in 2–5 minutes. Run it empty at your cooking temperature for 3–5 minutes before adding food. Preheating is especially important for: anything you want a sear or crust on, chicken skin, French fries, and frozen foods. It makes a significant difference to crispiness — a cold air fryer causes food to steam before it starts to fry.
